Maida Gymnasium refurbishment – Former Army boxing Gym gets a facelift.

Following the success story behind the rejuvenation of the Smith Dorrien building, Millgrove Construction are pleased to have been selected again by Grainger PLC as the contractor to carry out the external refurbishment and renovation of the grade II listed Maida Gymnasium building in Aldershot.

Located within the new Wellesley development currently being developed by Grainger, the recognisable red brick Gymnasium building dates from circa 1890 and was originally constructed as an army boxing gym, built as part of a national programme to improve the physical condition of soldiers through gymnastics. Nowadays the building is leased to Nick Chapman who runs his business, Fight Science.

The gym today offers a state-of-the-art martial arts, strength and conditioning facility and is specifically aimed at the world of MMA and Combat sports but also offers general fitness training. Construction work started on site earlier this month with the erection of a full scaffold round the building, but the business will remain open and unaffected throughout the construction programme.
